Specialties Zug

Culinary specialties from Zug

The 'Zuger Chriesi' (black cherries) are said to be the best. So it is hardly surprising that Zug has wonderful cherry specialties to offer such as Zuger Kirschtorte, Zuger Kirschstängeli, Zuger Kirsch and Zuger Eierkirsch.

The most famous Zug speciality is probably the Zuger Kirschtorte. This remained unchanged for a hundred years until the Zuger Kirsch ice cream cake was invented in the Guggital as a cold counterpart.

The invention of former chef Satha Satchithanantham quickly became the favorite dessert of many and impresses with a fine, genuine Japonais base, a wafer-thin layer of butter, cherry parfait followed by cherry parfait covering an airy sponge cake well soaked with Zuger Kirsch - a real treat.

Zug iced coffee is also particularly popular in Zug. It can absolutely compete with Viennese iced coffee and is particularly delicious in the Guggital with the homemade mocha ice cream.

Another Zug speciality is Perch Zuger style with a light white wine cream sauce.

But Zug has even more culinary delights to offer. The region is also known for its handmade chocolates, which are refined with Zuger Kirsch and are a perfect souvenir for gourmets.

An absolute highlight is the famous Zuger Kirsch, a clear cherry brandy distilled from the best Zug cherries. It is not only enjoyed neat, but also used in many regional recipes to give the dishes a special touch. Zuger Kirsch is a symbol of the region's culinary tradition and quality and a must for every visitor.

Historic old town

The magical old town of Zug

Just 700 metres from the Guggital valley begins the picturesque Upper Zug Old Town , which stretches down to Lake Zug. A walk through this historic area is like a journey into the past, where narrow streets and charming squares tell the story of the city.

Zug's old town is known for its small, exquisite shops that offer personal service and invite you to shop. Here you will find unique boutiques, traditional craft shops and cozy cafés that invite you to linger.

A special attraction is the farmers' market, which takes place every Saturday on the lakeshore. Local farmers offer their fresh products here, and the hustle and bustle at the market is an experience in itself. Let yourself be enchanted by the aromas of fresh baked goods, fruit and vegetables and discover regional specialties.

A little anecdote tells of an old clockmaker who had his shop in the winding streets of the old town. One day he repaired a clock that had not worked for decades. When the clock started ticking again, the residents said that with each stroke of the clock the heart of the old town beat a little faster. This story is symbolic of the lively and warm atmosphere that you can experience in Zug's old town.

Our models in Guggital's pictures are wearing clothes from the charming Doema boutique in Zug's old town. The boutique offers a wonderful selection of women's fashion and accessories as well as various selected dog items.
